A Note of Appreciation
It would be inappropriate to not fully recognize the contributions of the many families that played such an important role in the history of San Luis Obispo County, especially in the fishing community. That being said, I would also like to recognize the importance that the Chinese and Japanese cultures played in the development of the fishing industry of this region starting in the mid 1800s. Their contributions are not as appreciated as much as they should be.
They, along with my Native Indian ancestors going back centuries, were the pioneering fishing cultures that all of this comes from. Their family names are too many to name here but I can promise they will never be forgotten. My grandfather Eddie and his siblings made sure I knew this before they passed away.
And as always, my family is also very grateful to the late Glen and LaVora Bickford for their family friendship and their dedication to recording the history of this area with Glen’s photography. Our families were neighbors on C Street back in the day. The Pierce Family for generations has deeply appreciated our relationship with their families and their descendants.
